Lavender works as an anxiolytic (an anxiety reliever) and as a sedative, to increase relaxation and calm. It also interacts with neurotransmitters to help quiet the brain and nervous system activity, reducing agitation, anger, aggression and restlessness. Many studies have shown using lavender oils can improve sleep quality for those with insomnia, depression and anxiety.
Lavender is a natural pain reliever and natural antibiotic. The use of lavender in aromatherapy massage can be effective in improving headaches, toothaches, pain during labour, ear pain from infection and post surgical pain.
Studies have shown the effect of lavender assisting in reducing anxiety, by stimulating the nose to pass signals to the brain. It helps regulate bodily processes associated with anxiety, such as heart rate and breathing rhythm.
